Hermosa Community Heart Scholarship
New Hermosa Scholarship Prioritizes Character Over Grades
HERMOSA, SD — A new local scholarship is breaking tradition by removing GPA requirements for graduating seniors. The Community Heart Grant is now accepting applications, focusing entirely on community impact, personal character, and a passion for one's craft rather than a letter grade.
Recognizing that a student’s potential isn't defined by a number on a transcript, this award is open to all seniors, whether you're a 4.0 student or a 2.0 student, if you have a heart for service and a plan for your future, we want to see your application. “We want to support the 'doers'—the students who show up for their neighbors, work hard outside of school, or have a talent for hands-on skills. Whether a student is heading to a four-year university or a vocational trade school, their character is what matters most to us.”
Scholarship Highlights:
-
No Minimum GPA: Open to all students in good standing. You must be from eastern Custer County and have strong connections to Hermosa SD
-
Trade School Focused: Students pursuing vocational certifications (mechanics, nursing, welding, etc.) are highly encouraged to apply.
-
Simple Application: Based on personal stories and community involvement rather than test scores.
Award Amount: $500.00 Deadline: April 15, 2026
How to Apply: Application forms are available in the announcement section of the website or here, or for request at joharris.news@gmail.com
